Modern bought cakes and biscuits are reliably the same, time after time, and are made with things I have never heard of. And they do not taste as good!<br /><br />We did not eat enormous amounts, either, as the week's baking had to last the week, and bought biscuits (let alone cake!) were expensive.<br /><br />I read recently that half of the UK's "food" does not come from recognizable ingredients now, but from chemicals.
