The new public holiday legislation

currently going through parliament in this state is nothing short of ridiculous. Why? The legislation fails to put a name to any of the fixed dates.

The legislation says things like January 1 and December 25 instead of  New Year's Day and Christmas Day. It goes on to things like January 26 and April 25, our national day and ANZAC Day. Can you see a problem yet?

Yes, Easter. They have to name Easter in the same legislation because Easter is not on the same date every year. Easter, in the western (not Orthodox tradition) occurs on the first Sunday after the full moon that occurs on or after the spring equinox. (If the full moon happens to be on a Sunday then Easter Sunday is the following Sunday.

So there you have it. Apparently you can name Easter but you cannot name anything else? What happens when you have someone from another part of the world or even just another state wanting to know what we call December 26? (It happens to be Proclamation Day in this state - look that one up!)

The government says there is nothing in this but of course there is. It is the first move to removing and changing some dates to suit the woke demands of a tiny group. Time to remove the government perhaps?
